Start a group

In this month's Futuremakers feature article we heard from Sue Lewis from Climate Change Balmain-Rozelle (CC-BR), a group of concerned citizens who joined together and started campaigning in their local community to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

Sue and the rest of the group are everyday people, just like you, who are doing their best to help protect our future. CC-BR have put together a quick guide outlining the steps they took to get started. On that page they say:

"The true power of a group like ours lies in numbers. Imagine if there were an active local group voicing their concern and pressuring their elected members about Climate Change in every electorate?"

Can you imagine that? Are you able to help?

Perhaps a similar group has already started in your area. Check your local newspapers and keep an eye out for such a group, and if you can give them your support. If you can't find any groups in your local area, perhaps you could start one yourself, using their guide as a starting point.

Volunteer

If you don't have the time to set up your own group, there are still many opportunities to get involved in helping our environment around Australia - perhaps you can volunteer to help out an environment-focused organisation?

Our website has a calendar of events and list of volunteer opportunities that is updated regularly. Conservation Volunteers Australia and Go Volunteer are two other organisations that have volunteer opportunities on offer. Check out these listings to see if there's an opportunity that suits you.

Every bit of help makes a difference.
