New dams are threatening the world's largest rivers
Gland, Switzerland - A new WWF report warns that indiscriminate dam-building is threatening the world's largest and most important rivers, with the Yangtze in China, the La Plata in South America, and the Tigris and Euphrates in the Middle East likely to suffer most from dams.

New Marine Debris Report and Net Kit highlight deadly problem
WWF Australia in Darwin has released its 4th marine debris survey in partnership with Sea Rangers from six Indigenous communities at Cape Arnhem, Groote Eylandt, Elcho Island, McArthur River and Cobourg Peninsula. The unique report is the only comprehensive annual survey conducted into the marine debris problem in northern Australia, and confirms the continued threat to marine habitats and species.

WWF's working draft for Model Water Reform Bill
When the Council of Australian Governments (CoAG) meets next week, a framework for Australia's water future will be decided. WWF Australia believes this National Water Initiative can and should deliver one of the most significant reforms since Federation. The National Water Plan must deal with the past and set a framework for the future.

Australia's borders are wide open to invasion by thousands of new weeds due to a quarantine law loophole, according to a new report commissioned by WWF Australia.
Landmark verdict finds landholder guilty
In a landmark decision, the Federal Court of Australia today found a prominent landholder, Mr Ron Greentree, and his company Auen Grain Pty Ltd, guilty of having contravened the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC Act) by clearing a part of the internationally recognised Gwydir Wetlands near Moree NSW.

New survey reveals nearly 1,600 giant pandas in the wild
Gland, Switzerland - Results from the most comprehensive survey of China's giant panda population reveal that there are nearly 1,600 pandas in the wild, over 40 percent more animals than previously thought to exist. The last panda survey in the 1980s found around 1,100 giant? pandas in the wild. These findings come from a four-year-long study of pandas and their habitat carried out by the State Forestry Administration of China and WWF, the global conservation organization.
