WWF welcomes Garnaut's call for immediate action on climate change

WWF has welcomed the message from Professor Garnaut's interim report that it is in Australia's economic interest to engage in early action on climate change and that this action must be guided by climate science.

Bangkok, Dublin and San Francisco join Earth Hour

New world map - Kimberley coast one of the most pristine places on the planet

The first global analysis of the data on human impacts to ecosystems such as coral reefs, seagrass beds, continental shelves and the deep ocean, rated the marine environment of northern Australia, including the Kimberley, as one of the few relatively pristine coastal areas left on Earth.

Australia lags behind China on protected areas

Australia's commitment to protected land areas is weaker than the world's most populous developing nation, China, WWF-Australia revealed today. Current national reports show 10.5 per cent of Australia's land area safeguarded in protected areas, considerably less than several other megadiverse nations that harbour the majority of the earth's species.

Minister Wong's commitments welcome but Govt must stabilise emissions by 2010

WWF has welcomed commitments made today by the Minister for Climate Change and Water, Penny Wong, during a speech to the Australian Industry Group that the Australian Government would set medium-term greenhouse gas emission reduction targets and measures to promote energy efficiency.

WWF applauds Governments on new policy approach to Kimberley coast

WWF today welcomed the announcement by Federal Environment Minister, Peter Garrett and WA’s Acting Minister for State Development John Kobelke that their Governments would undertake a joint strategic assessment to protect the iconic Kimberley coast from uncoordinated development.
