Welcome move towards state emissions trading scheme

WWF said today it was pleased that the discussions about a State emissions trading scheme were moving forward with all the States involved. The discussions on the design of an emissions trading scheme that will be happening over the coming months will be crucial to the impact it has on greenhouse emission levels in Australia.
A well designed scheme that has a strong price on the pollution of carbon dioxide could drive investment in the low emission and renewable technologies that Australia needs to rapidly increase.
WWF today released a Clean Energy Future blueprint for NSW that could be implemented over the next ten years. An emissions trading scheme can play an important part in making this happen. Other policy measures and infra-structure decisions will also be needed to ensure there is a shift the low emission and renewables technologies that are available today.
