WWF-Australia - for a living planet

Why we work with business

Achieving changes in business practice is essential if there is to be real progress in tackling conservation challenges like global warming, moving to renewable energy systems and clean technologies, and ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources such as water, timber, fish and agricultural products.

Who do we work with?

We engage with companies that demonstrate a real commitment to the principles of sustainability and are prepared to adopt challenging targets for change. We will also challenge a company's poor environmental practices and policies, where more sustainable alternatives exist.

We don't only engage with businesses and industries with a low impact on the environment, but engage with those businesses and industries that offer the potential to change the way in which a whole sector can change.

We undertake a due diligence assessment on each corporate partner and ensure their values are consistent with WWF-Australia.

Does working with business compromise WWF-Australia's position as an independent conservation organisation?

No. In fact, we believe that it is quite the reverse. It is imperative for us to work with business and industry if we are serious about achieving our mission and to build the case for making business more sustainable.

In all business partnerships entered into by WWF, we strive to work together to achieve mutually beneficial goals. As a principal of engagement, WWF is not obliged to do anything which conflicts with its policies and/or principles. In constructive consultation with all partners, WWF maintains the right as a conservation organisation to comment, disagree or take a position on issues that may differ from that of the business partner.

Do companies have to agree with WWF-Australia policies?

A partnership involves both parties agreeing to the rules of the partnership. A company does not have to agree with all of WWF-Australia's policies but must have a real commitment to the environment. The partnership must be transparent and include accountability from both parties.
