WWF-Australia - for a living planet

Land clearing in NSW

WWF-Australia convened the Wentworth Group of Concerned Scientists to help determine the best way forward for Australia's landscapes. This diverse group of Australia's foremost scientific thinkers came up with a management model for native vegetation in NSW, adopted by the NSW Government as policy.

Monitoring landscape policy and reform

In 2003 the NSW Government pledged $406.3 million over the next four years to end broadscale clearing in NSW.

WWF-Australia advised the then Premier Bob Carr on how to best implement the new landscape management policy and is continuing its commitment to ensure this extraordinary environmental package is implemented effectively. The key goal is to ensure the funding allocation sufficiently meets the needs of NSW farmers and communities, and its landscapes and species.

We will be working closely with a broad range of people - including farmers, industry associations, indigenous communities and local and state governments - to assist in this transition.
