MEET A RANGER: KIAH MORGAN - QUANDAMOOKA YOOLOOBURRABEE ABORIGINAL CORPORATION (QYAC)

In this powerful video honouring the NAIDOC Week 2024 theme of "Keep the Fire Burning: Blak, Loud and Proud", meet Kiah Morgan, a proud Quandamooka woman. Kiah is an aspiring Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation (QYAC) ranger who is one of the first to complete her cultural fire and drone training on Minjerribah, North Stradbroke Island. Hear her story and why she's so excited to care for Country.

“Quandamooka country is so special. you've got the coastal, but then you've got this sort of inland sort of feel, which is really beautiful”, says Kiah.

“It really interests me to be out on Country and to be in nature and looking at the native animals.”

“I just completed my cultural fire training and it was really exciting”, Kiah reveals.

“It felt sort of powerful to be a woman on the course and to learn how to safely burn Country and culturally do it.”

“It's been really interesting doing the drone training. I've really enjoyed it. I was just flying drones as a hobby. And then when I got approached to do this project, it was really exciting for me”, Kiah says.

“I think it's important everywhere that there is Traditional Custodianship. We've always been here and we always will be here.”
