Protect wombats today

There is much to love about the wombat. These short-legged, barrelled Aussie marsupials are big on personality and play an important role in the ecosystems they live in. But sadly, like many other native animals, wombats are experiencing the loss of their habitats at unprecedented rates.

Smaller areas of habitat mean they are often falling victim to vehicle accidents and dog attacks. Young wombats are also vulnerable to predators like foxes, and competition for food with a number of introduced species, such as rabbits, threatens their survival. The hairy-nosed wombat is listed as Critically Endangered, with only 400 remaining in the wild.

Please take action today to protect wombats and their habitat. Symbolically adopting a wombat can help save these cute, feisty animals and protect other threatened species.

When you sign up to an ongoing adoption, you’ll receive exclusive wombat updates to keep you posted on the huge impact of your generosity.

Rewilding the wombat

Your adoption will support WWF-Australia's ambitious rewilding projects aiming to return native animals like the wombat to their former homes.

You’ll be helping reintroduce them to habitats they were driven away from by introduced species like foxes and other threats like bushfires.

Protecting their habitats long-term

Many of our local landscapes, including the ones wombats call home, are seeing the devastating effects of climate change and human activity.

You can help turn this destruction around as we work to stop excessive tree-clearing, protect existing trees and forests, and replant native habitat that has been lost.

Helping wombats help other species

The wombat is a crucial ecosystem engineer: its digging improves the quality of the soil, and its burrows act as safe havens for other species during bushfires and other extreme weather events.

By helping return the wombat to areas it once roamed, you’ll be supporting the survival of its neighbours, too.

We can't protect wombats without you

When you adopt a wombat, you’ll be joining them on their journey to a safer future. Your special adoption gift pack includes a cuddly wombat plush toy, factbook, adoption certificate, Living Planet magazine and WWF sticker. If you sign up for an adoption, you’ll also receive updates on how your generous donations are helping to conserve and protect our Aussie wildlife.
