Scent detection dogs sniffing out the koalas of Dorrigo

How do you locate koalas in dense forest? By finding their scat!

Supported by WWF-Australia and Koala, conservation groups Great Eastern Ranges and Canines for Wildlife have been conducting koala surveys on the Dorrigo Plateau in northern NSW.

How exactly? By using scent detection dogs to sniff out koala scat (poo) and then using this scat to study the health and genetics of the koala population in the area.
