WWF-Australia is urging the government to deliver on our Nature Positive asks, a set of reforms and policy actions designed to stop the devastating loss of nature and biodiversity seen in recent years - helping to create a better tomorrow for all people and the planet.What we are calling on government and businesses to do
Bold action from government
The government needs to act quickly on its plan to improve Australia’s environmental laws and keep its promises to protect nature globally. Establishing and enforcing stronger nature laws and environmental policies and targets will help Australia to stop and reverse nature loss by 2030 and achieve full recovery by 2050.
Visionary leadership from businesses
It is time for businesses to transform their approach, adopt nature-positive practices and reduce environmental harm. This means applying a nature-positive lens to every decision, from the products they choose and the suppliers they work with, to how they run their operations.
Nature Positive Means:
Halting and reversing nature loss by 2030. It means clean air, fresh water, and healthy landscapes.
It means thriving oceans, rivers, and forests. A stable climate for all.
It means caring for Country and respecting the deep connection between people and land.
It means empowering people, strengthening communities, and helping our economies flourish.
It means working together to restore nature. Because when nature thrives, so do we.
Global Nature Positive Summit 2024 First Nations Statement
Nature Positive may sound like a new concept, but First Peoples have been nature-positive for millennia. We call it caring for Country. Whether it’s land, sea or sky, caring for Country has been part of our stories and songlines for generations. It’s driven by one simple principle: leaving Country better than you found it. On countless occasions, the world has seen the social and economic good that comes when indigenous peoples are supported to care for Country. To have Healthy Country, we must invest in it. We must provide First Peoples the resources and cultural authority they need to revitalise their Knowledge and practices on Country.
A joint statement, co-written by First Nations advisers at the Australian Conservation Foundation and WWF-Australia and signed by more than 40 groups and individuals, calls on government and business representatives to engage Indigenous peoples on all ‘nature positive’ decision-making processes and outcomes.
