CLIMATE RESILIENT BY NATURE

Building resilience where climate, nature and communities meet. Discover how locally-led, nature-based solutions are helping people and ecosystems thrive together across Australia, the Pacific, and Southeast Asia.

Nature is our greatest ally in building resilience. When nature thrives, people do too.

Climate Resilient by Nature is an Australian Government initiative in partnership with WWF-Australia.

Climate Resilient by Nature (CRxN) is an ambitious initiative supporting Indigenous and local communities to lead the way in climate adaptation and nature-based solutions. By working in partnership, CRxN supports nature-based solutions that protect, restore, and sustainably manage ecosystems such as forests, mangroves, reefs and freshwater. At the same time, these actions deliver a range of benefits from helping to reduce emissions, enhancing local livelihoods and helping communities better adapt and respond to climate shocks and stresses.

These stories show that real resilience is built from the ground up—where people and nature work together for a brighter, more secure future. Explore how CRxN is making a difference across the region.

Community Strength Through Resilient Coral

In Fiji, local marine scientists and communities are working together to protect and restore coral reefs — nature’s frontline defence against climate impacts.

By identifying and propagating heat-resilient corals, they’re helping reefs survive rising temperatures and supporting the livelihoods that depend on them.

This collaborative, community-led approach in partnership with Kyeema Foundation and Corals for Conservation is building resilience both above and below the waterline.

Roots of Resilience

In Timor-Leste, farmers are embracing agroforestry as a powerful nature-based solution to climate change. In partnership with Caritas and Catholic Relief Services, and supported by CRxN, communities are planting diverse crops and trees, improving soil health, and boosting food security.

These projects are helping families adapt to changing weather, increase their incomes, and protect the environment for future generations.

By working with nature, communities are building deep roots of resilience, ensuring they can thrive into the future.

Seagrapes Revo-lution is Not Business as usual

In a groundbreaking initiative, four communities in Western Province of Solomon Islands have launched a women-led community-based enterprise producing body lotion and soap made from sustainably harvested sea grapes. This is part of WWF-Pacific’s Nature-Positive Business for Climate Critical Ecosystems project, supported by Climate Resilient by Nature, an Australian Government-funded initiative.

In Viet Nam’s Mekong Delta, communities are transforming agriculture to adapt to rising seas and shifting weather patterns. Supported by Climate Resilient by Nature, farmers are reviving an ancient floating rice variety alongside sustainable fish farming, creating a nature-positive model that boosts food security and income.

This approach reduces chemical use, restores biodiversity, and strengthens resilience against climate shocks. By blending Traditional Knowledge with modern practices, these communities are planting the seeds of a future where people and nature thrive together.

Weaving Traditional Knowledge and Conservation Practice in Fiji

On Kavewa Island, in the Province of Macuata in Fiji, community members are blending ancestral knowledge with modern conservation to build resilience for people and nature.

By protecting local ecosystems and reviving cultural practices, they’re ensuring that both the land and their way of life can thrive.

This work, in collaboration with WWF-Fiji, highlights the power of co-design, partnership, and respect for Indigenous leadership in creating lasting climate solutions.
