WWF CONGRATULATES NEW AUSTRALIAN PRIME MINISTER
WWF-Australia today congratulated Malcolm Turnbull on his appointment as Australia’s 29th Prime Minister.
WWF urged the new Prime Minister to focus on the issues that unite Australians, such as reducing pollution and protecting the Great Barrier Reef for future generations.
“We welcome Prime Minister Turnbull’s appointment,” said WWF-Australia CEO Dermot O’Gorman.
“As a former Environment Minister, he will be well aware of the challenges facing Australia’s natural wonders, and we look forward to working with his government to tackle them."
“With the Great Barrier Reef having lost half it’s coral cover, and wildlife under threat from loss of habitat and rising temperatures, we urge the new Prime Minister to work towards lasting, bipartisan reforms for Australia's environment."
“Australia is a great place to live, and we can ensure we keep it that way through exciting and sustainable new technologies, such as renewable energy."
“We also urge the new PM to preserve Australia's proud democratic traditions, including the right of all Australians to advocate for preservation of our natural environment for our children’s futures.”
