WWF-AUSTRALIA WELCOMES SUPPORT FOR BATTERY STORAGE

WWF-Australia welcomes the Greens announcement today to encourage households and businesses to purchase renewable energy storage systems.

“Battery storage is a crucial step towards Australia transitioning to 100% renewable electricity by 2035,” said Kellie Caught, WWF-Australia National Manager, Climate Change.

“Australia leads the world in roof-top solar with 1.5 million households using this form of renewable energy."

“Battery storage is the next step enabling homes and businesses to take control of their own power bills."

“Batteries are getting better and cheaper and there’s an important role for Government to encourage the uptake of technologies that support renewable energy."

“It’s good for the environment, it means reduced power bills, and it eases the pressure on our energy networks during peak demand periods."

“The Green’s plan to finance this measure by removing $2.75 billion in fossil fuel subsidies is spot on, and shows a clear commitment to investing in a modern, clean Australian energy future.”

“This election WWF is asking all major parties to announce plans for 100% renewable electricity by 2035. The Greens battery storage policy is an important step towards that goal,” Ms Caught said.
