ANDREW FORREST, BRUCE PASCOE, LUCY TURNBULL JOIN NEW PODCAST ON HOW TO MAKE AUSTRALIA A SUSTAINABILITY SUPERPOWER

WWF-Australia partner with Good Will Hunters podcast in new series to drive sustainability agenda in lead-up to COP26

In a new podcast series, launched today by Good Will Hunters in partnership with WWF-Australia, sustainability and renewable energy leaders from across Asia-Pacific will ask why Australia is faltering on the sustainability agenda and what we need to do to lead the region and the world in building a more sustainable future.

WWF-Australia CEO Dermot O’Gorman said the podcast was launching at a critical moment, with world leaders set to gather in Glasgow for the 26^th UN Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP26) in just over a month.

“The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has been clear that we need an immediate and rapid shift away from fossil fuels to avoid the worst impacts of climate change,” said Mr O’Gorman.

“This series is about talking to those people who will be most affected by this shift – leaders from the public and private sector, Indigenous communities and our Asia-Pacific neighbours – to understand how we can change the way we produce electricity, power mobility and industry, build cities, and produce food for nearly 8 billion people and how Australia can become a leader in this sustainability push.”

“At the heart of this series is the future vision for Australia,” said Rachel Mason Nunn, Founder and Host of Good Will Hunters. “We explore cutting edge thinking on building sustainable cities, creating food security for Australia and the region, explore sustainability in the tourism industry, hear firsthand how to empower resilient communities and reimagine a world powered by renewable energy.”

The series begins with an interview with Victor Steffensen, co-founder of the Firesticks Alliance and Professor Lesley Hughes, Pro Vice-Chancellor at Macquarie University and former Lead Author of IPCC Assessment Reports. The episode grapples with the fundamentality of nature in all our lives and calls on policymakers and the academic community to better integrate indigenous knowledge into the fight against climate change.
