NATION’S CAPITAL DELIVERS CLASS 'ACT' WITH 100% RENEWABLE POWER PLAN BY 2020
WWF-Australia congratulates the Australian Capital Territory Government on its announcement today to have 100% of its electricity needs met by renewable energy by 2020.
The new target will achieve the milestone five years earlier than originally planned, sending a clear signal of what’s possible across the country.
“The ACTs announcement shows a clear commitment to future generations by accelerating the shift towards clean, modern and affordable renewable energy”, said Kellie Caught, National Manager, Climate Change at WWF Australia.
“Our nation’s capital has positioned itself as leader both at home and abroad with its commitment to renewable energy and action on climate change."
“The ACT is getting the job done by cutting carbon pollution, growing jobs and providing reliable and affordable energy to Canberrans."
“In the last five years renewable energy jobs in the ACT have grown more 400%. Imagine what today’s announcement will do for jobs in the next five years?"
“With 100% renewables in the ACT by 2020, there is nothing stopping Australia setting a target of 100% renewable electricity by 2035.”
